From the York Guildhall Orchestra:
Having ended our last season on a high with a ‘Proms Extravaganza’ we shall begin our new season on October 14th in similar mood with the fizzing Carnaval Romain Overture by Berlioz.
The famous, Faure Pavane will follow and the first half will culminate with a performance of Bartok’s 3rd Piano Concerto. Our soloist will be the Canadian pianist Grace Huang. Grace has been critically acclaimed as “one of the most talented young soloists around.” Grace last performed with us in 2005 and we are delighted to welcome her back this season.
The second half will be devoted to works by Sibelius. Continuing with our cycle of his symphonies, we have now reached Symphony No 5 about which Bernstein said, it “has the greatest finale of all time.” We shall also be playing the popular Valse Triste, a lyrical waltz, which remains one of Sibelius’ signature pieces.
7.30 pm Saturday October 14 at the York Barbican, tickets here.
