Talk by Simon Jenkins on railway stations

The York Literature Festival, with a wide variety of authors, artists, book readings, talks and events, will take place across various venues in York between  March 15 and 26 2018: you can download the full programme here.

Here’s just one item, sure to be of interest to the many dads and husbands* who got the book for Christmas: Simon Jenkins will be talking about railway stations, specifically the 100 best railway stations which feature in his new book.

Bestselling historian Simon Jenkins travelled the country to select the best railway stations and will describe their history, geography, design and significance, telling the story behind the development, triumphs and follies of these very British creations. And yes, York station is one of them.

Simon Jenkins is the author of the bestselling books England’s Thousand Best Churches and England’s Thousand Best Houses amongst others. He is the former editor of The Evening Standard and The Times, and a columnist for The Guardian. He has served as deputy chairman of English Heritage and chairman of the National Trust and founded the Railway Heritage Trust.

March 17, 7.00-8.30 pm at St Peter’s School, York. Tickets £10 from York Theatre Royal.

* I pleaded guilty, but the husband says the book is a lot more interesting than you might think. Ed
