The freedom that people often feel when they’re standing in a vast, beautiful landscape is captured in the latest exhibition at the North York Moors National Park’s art gallery.
The Inspired by… gallery at The Moors National Park Centre at Danby is exhibiting a solo show by Yorkshire Dales artist Penny Hunt entitled: The Feel of Freedom.
The collection of paintings, ceramics and prints all aim to capture those moments in the mountains, or on the moorlands and coast where the landscape puts life into perspective.
Penny often incorporates elements of the landscape into her paintings, such as earth and grit to surfaces or using paint ground from locally sourced stone, to heighten the sense of place.
The collection also includes seascapes where the artist explores the feeling of timeless movement and space when watching the way water moves around obstacles.
The Feel of Freedom continues until Monday 4 September. Visitors can also learn more about Penny’s printmaking techniques during a workshop on Saturday 19 August 10.30am – 4pm. The workshop costs £40 and must be booked in advance.
