Kirkbymoorside FC - new website

Folk can keep up with all the latest fixtures, results and news by having a look from time to time. Anyone can view it but I would recommend that they actually join up and become a site member, probably as a supporter, which will then allow them to take an active part in the Forum discussion and also to add comments to news items and match reports.

Another good feature for those who sign up is that they can enjoy an on-line shopping experience by selecting SHOP in the middle of the menu bar at the top. This will open up a wide range of on-line stores including all the household names like Argos, JJB Sports, Debenhams, Amazon and many more. Any members that make purchases via the KMSFC website will then generate funds for the football club through a cash-back scheme. We are hoping that this might provide an additional income stream for the club.

Visit the site.

Kirkbymoorside Football Club Statement – December 2011

Contrary to rumour and speculation the management committee wishes to re-assure members, players, supporters and the community that the club is not about to fold.

Over recent weeks there have been a number of comments made that the club is both bankrupt and unable to continue to field two senior sides.

Whilst 2011/12 season has seen a number of changes on and off the pitch, there is no truth whatsoever in this rumour and conjecture. It is proving a challenging season and one of transition but after some 120 years in existence the management committee has no intention of allowing that heritage to disappear.

The club has the funds to continue (without borrowing) and the managers are working hard to acquire new players at the same time as developing players from the junior section of the club.

We urge all who read this to further communicate this message and as always any voluntary help both on and off the pitch is very welcome. Club website.

Kirkbymoorside Junior Football Club - Presentation Day 2011

Despite the rain a wonderful afternoon was put on by the managers, coaches and volunteers for the club's young players and their families. With now around 170 players, both boys and girls, the club is probably the biggest operating in the town and is certainly one of the most successful. On this video you'll see the fun and games that were laid on for everyone to enjoy followed by the award ceremony when the efforts of all were recognised. Special mention should be made of the coaches and other volunteers who give up so much of their time to give the youngsters such a great opportunity to develop their footballing and social skills in a safe and supportive environment.

It's a long video, 45 mins, and a bit blurry due to the rain but hopefully you'll see some faces you recognise and get a sense of what a great time was had by all.

Kirkbymoorside FC - pre-season news

The wait is nearly over as Kirkbymoorside have already started training for the 2011-12 campaign in the Wearside League.

A few new faces have been to the training sessions so there will probably be one or two additions to the squad when the season kicks off on Saturday 6th August. The first game will be away but as the fixtures have not yet been published we don't know where, although there is a chance it could be against one of the new teams in the League with Gateshead Leam Rangers, Peterlee Town and Silksworth Rangers replacing Easington Colliery (promoted to Northern League), New Marske (resigned and will now play in Teesside League) and Silksworth (resigned). There is another new name in the League for this season in the shape of Sunderland West End but in reality they are Houghton Town who have undergone a bit of a reshuffle and a name change. Our first home game is likely to be on Wednesday 10th August with a 6.30pm kick off.

In preparation for the action getting under way a series of pre-season friendly games have been arranged against a variety of opponents with the highlight being a "local derby" against our friends from along the A170 at Pickering who play in the Northern Counties East League (Premier division). Because of clashes with cricket and also the work going on to improve the pitch at Kirkby all of the games are away but supporters are welcome to come along and see how things are shaping up and also give a bit of support against a few teams that we are not likely to come up against too often. The full list of pre-season games is:-

Sun 10 July v Thirsk Blue Star (Hambleton Combination) 11.00 am @ Coxwold (This will be a KMS XI)

Tues 19th July v Robert Thompson's FC (Thirsk) 6.30 pm away

Fri 22 July v Littletown (Dewsbury - West Riding Amateur League) 7.00 pm

Sun 24 July v Boroughbridge (West Yorks Premier) Away 2.00 pm

Fri 29 July v Pickering Town (NCEL) Away 7.45 pm

Tue 2 Aug v Old Malton St Marys (York League Premier) Away 6.30 pm

There will probably be a few other games arranged at a later date for the Reserve team who will not start league action until the end of August or early September.

New Marske 4 (1) Kirkbymoorside 3 (2)

There is something about games between these two sides as results over the last couple of seasons have included 3-2 wins for each side and a couple of 3-3 draws. This was another thriller with New Marske just shading a 7 goal game after twice being behind and there could easily have been more goals. Both sides were rather depleted but whereas Kirkby were limited to bringing in a couple of youngsters because of the stupid ruling which would have meant any of the Reserves playing would have to sit out the Scarborough Junior Cup Final on Monday, New Marske were able to use the excellent Sam Garvie who started his career with them but now plays for Shildon in the Northern League. With Shildon having completed their fixtures Garvie is now available for Marske for the last few games.

Last-gasp goal seals Ryhope cup glory over Kirkby

Wearside League leaders Ryhope CW celebrated winning the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup yesterday with a last-ditch extra-time winner at Kirkbymoorside yesterday.

The Yorkshiremen, third-from-top, matched the Wearsiders throughout an enthralling two hours but just when it appeared the tie would be decided by penalties, Jonathan Davies became Ryhope’s hero.

A throw-in was knocked on and Davies ran in at the far post to head past goalkeeper Adam Magson and send Ryhope supporters delirious.

John Butler had the ball in the home net on 29 minutes but was shown a yellow card for handling and six minutes later Chris Trewick almost grabbed the lead for Ryhope but his effort rattled the crossbar.

Martin Swales’ side had more of the play but there was a scare on the hour when the home side were awarded a penalty for a foul on prolific scorer Ryan Rivis. Rob McDirmid’s kick was saved by goalkeeper Neil Atkinson and Ryhope breathed a sigh of relief.

In the first period of extra-time Magson made a great double save from Nathan O’Neil and Butler and after 112 minutes, Liam Cooper’s shot was blocked on the Ryhope line.

With only a minute of extra-time remaining, Davies came up trumps and Ryhope claimed their first silverware of the season. Source

Note: Adam Magson, Kirkbymoorside keeper, was rightly named Man of the Match after pulling off several magnificent saves - the match officials said they had not seen a better goalkeeping performance all season so well done Adam!

It was a great afternoon despite the loss. Our team played really well, especially considering they had played four games in the last eight days in the run up to this. It was sad to lose but the crowd of 300+ went home feeling really proud of the lad's achievement. Thanks very much to Bob Gardiner for the photo of Adam in action above - more will be added when Mal Mudd's match report arrives.

Cup Final - today in Kirkbymoorside!

The Monkwearmouth Cup Final between Kirkbymoorside FC and Ryhope CW FC is to be played at Kirkbymoorside today, Easter Monday (25th April) with a 1.30pm kick off.

Don't miss it!

Sure to be a cracking game and well worth people going just to get a look at the trophy. It is one of the oldest in the country (first contested in 1889) and is huge. It is also solid silver and worth a fair bit, I believe the insurance value is around £10,000.

Admission will be £2 with all proceeds going to the Monkwearmouth Hospital Charity. There will be a matchday programme on sale and the usual hot/cold drinks and burgers/chips etc etc will be available as will a few KMS FC items such as scarves/ mugs/ pin badges. We are hoping for a good crowd and KMS FC will benefit from raffle/ drinks sales etc.

Do come down to the ground and support your home town - with a bit of luck we may get a crowd of 300 or more!

Kirkbymoorside 3 Willington 2

The Moorsiders stretched their winning run to six games with this victory against mid table Willington on Wednesday night and in doing so enhanced the chances of a top four finish. They are currently in third but Redcar Athletic and New Marske have games in hand. Kirkby went into this game with more changes to the line-up, Ryan Cooper was not deemed ready to return and Rob McDermid was left out of the starting line up after the battering he got on Monday. Also missing were Matty Bower after his injury on Monday and a late blow was the absence of the Strickland twins through work. The good news was the return of Ryan Rivis after missing Monday’s game and he had a new strike partner in the shape of Liam Cooper. There was also a seasonal debut for Chris Hodgson who slotted into midfield.

Kirkbymoorside FC 2 (0) Silksworth FC 0 (0)

Kirkby earned another three points with this victory over Silksworth to consolidate their placing at the top end of the table and keep them in good shape for the busy period coming up next week when there are vital games at home to New Marske on Monday, Willington on Wednesday and Easington on Saturday. With an eye on these games manager Alex Strickland shuffled the pack and rested both Ryan Cooper and Martin Cooper although the latter made a substitute appearance in the second half. A couple of players were unavailable and Uyi Ehima was missing through injury. Liam Cooper started again after his recent absence and Eddie Strickland made a return to the bench after his recent holiday and although he didn’t actually get on the field, he appeared for the Reserves in the game against Gillamoor which followed.

Kirkbymoorside FC seek commercial manager

The town's successful team are looking to appoint a commercial manager to arrange sponsorship deals and grants for future development.

The Moorsiders currently play in the Wearside League, which is a step seven league in the National Pyramid system, and the next aim is the second division of the Northern League.

A club spokesman said: “The appointment of a commercial manager is a major development for the club.

“We feel that is what is needed now for the next step – floodlights, ground improvements, extension of playing facilities and improvements to their dressing rooms – funding is the magic word.”

Further details are available by phoning chairman John Harmer on 01751 432382. Source

Kirkbymoorside 3 Cleator Moor Celtic 1

The Moorsiders collected another three points with a powerful display on Saturday to consolidate their top 6 status. The win was only assured late on against a strong Cumbrian side which belied their lowly League placing and the visitors can be confident of moving up into mid table with more performances like this as they catch up with a huge backlog of fixtures, they still have 13 games to play. This was a truly all round team effort with the front pair chasing and harrying throughout and the midfield players producing some great football at times in addition to contributing all the goals. The Kirkby back four gave strong performances and for the most part restricted the visitors to shots from range although Cleator Moor were perhaps slightly unfortunate to hit the woodwork twice.

Kirkbymoorside 1 (1) Annfield Plain 5 (0)

The Moorsiders slumped to an embarrassing defeat against Annfield Plain after totally dominating the opening half but then conceding three goals in a crazy six minute period early in the second period. Two further goals late on saw the final score being the worst home defeat for Kirkby in a Wearside League game.

Ryhope CW 2 (0) Kirkbymoorside 1 (0) aet 1-1 after 90 mins

Kirkbymoorside were beaten at the Semi-Final stage of the historic Sunderland Shipowners Charity Cup on Saturday by old rivals Ryhope. This was always expected to be a tight affair between two of the current form teams of the Wearside League and so it turned out.
