The Ryedale Rose Festival at RV Roger’s nursery in Pickering next weekend (8th and 9th July) will be a free rose-filled occasion for the whole family, a blaze of colour and scent with live music, hot and cold refreshments, crafts, displays, and demonstrations. And, this year’s event will also see the launch of the ‘Joe Maiden’ rose, named after the much loved author and radio Leeds broadcaster who passed away last year. There will be only a handful of ‘Joe Maiden’ roses available this season, and they will be auctioned at the festival to raise funds for Joe’s favourite charities, where bidding is expected to be keen! Visitors will be able to admire the huge range and diversity of our nation’s favourite flower, and have the rare opportunity to stroll amongst 50,000 rose bushes in full bloom in the RV Roger rose fields.
The Ryedale Rose Festival is also a major event on the rose exhibitors’ calendar, and is well established at the RV Roger nursery, where more than 50,000 roses of 650 varieties of roses are grown annually. The festival incorporates the British Isles Rose Society flagship annual show and awards ceremony, which re-sited to the nursery 5 years ago. Since then, it has grown into one of the premier showcase events for rose growers and rose fanciers across the UK, with around 1200 visitors attending over the weekend of last year’s event.
The Ryedale Rose festival has attracted media attention both locally and nationally, and is a highlight on the horticultural calendar, especially for anyone with a rose in their hearts.
