Continuing our series of profiles of local artists taking part in the 2013 Open Studios event, on the weekends of June 8-9 and 15-16.
Potter Elisabeth Bailey shares a studio with her mother Andrea at Moor Edge, Main Street, Gillamoor, YO62 7HX.
Elisabeth uses clay throwing skills developed over 35 years to form simple ceramic shapes as backdrops for free, swift brushwork drawings. She works with hot wax, painting directly on the newly glazed surface, then dipping pots in another glaze colour. During the kiln firing the designs move with the shape of the form, so pot and drawing become one. Inspiration comes from animals and birds she studies, drawing them until a few quick brush strokes can define their shape and form.
Elisabeth’s work will be on sale at prices ranging from £5.00 to £75.00.
