Income tax no longer payable at Post Office

Self assessment income tax is due to be paid by January 31.

My statement offers various ways to pay, including “Take your payslip to any participating Post Office and pay by debit card, cash or cheque…”. This is what I have done in previous years, not least because every bit of business helps to keep our Post Office open. However, I was informed at the Post Office that HMRC cancelled this arrangement with effect from January this year.

So if you have tax to pay by January 31, take note that you CAN’T do so at the Post Office. Another small blow to town life!
