Hovingham Village Market goes into overdrive in December with not one but two markets with a Christmas theme. So if you missed the regular monthly market on the first Saturday in December, you can still shop for some of those Christmas goodies at the second market, this Saturday December 19.
Get into the festive spirit with Christmas carols from the Swinton & District Excelsior Brass Band. Then Jack is back and playing his Saxophone solo from midday. There’s prizes to be won in a free to enter ‘Guess the Weight’ competition, and a tombola run by Ryedale Dog Rescue. And of course the community café will be open.
Still need unique gifts and stocking fillers? Choose from beeswax candles, honey, wine, cider, beer, juice, oil, cakes, beef, real bread, chocolate, meringues, brownies, vegetarian pastries, gluten free soups, roasted coffee, delicately smoked fish, plants & door wreaths, aromatherapy, art, stained glass, felt, textiles, jewellery, interior decor, alpaca yarns, books, cards, table mats, photographs, wood carving, stone sculptures, handmade dog treats, funky children’s clothing and more. Look out for new guest stalls, Pawsome Pets for quality treats and gifts for dogs and Nothing but Stripes, for bold and funky children’s wear.
Foodie treats include a seasonal selection of local and European cheeses from Nigel & Kath at Ryedale Cheese, including Dale End Cheddar, made by a Camphill Community in Botton Village – a strong and tangy traditional clothbound cheddar made in Yorkshire. Botton natural yoghurt is also available. Enliven your Christmas buffet and suppers with sensational pickles from Pucketts. Pigs in King Sized Duvets, sausage meat for stuffings, cranberry sausages and traditional hams are available from Peter Stark @ The Wall Coulton.
And finally, Christmas is not complete without sprouts – on the stalk or loose. Complete your vegetable shopping with fresh seasonal vegetables brought straight from the field.
