Election – how to get a postal vote

Person placing vote in ballot boxMany of us were taken by surprise by the announcement of a general election on June 8, and no doubt some of you, like me, quickly realised that as you won’t be in Kirkbymoorside on that day, you won’t be  able to vote.

Polling cards, which arrived last week, say “If you are away or cannot go to the polling station on Thursday June 8, you can … apply to vote by post” but don’t give any details of how to go about it. It’s easy enough to find out online, but to save you the bother, here’s what you do.

The website https://www.yourvotematters.co.uk/how-do-i-vote/voting-by-post gives you all the information you need, and you can download a pdf of the application form.  You need to print this off, fill it in, and mail it to the Electoral Registration Officer at Ryedale District Council (Ryedale House, Malton, YO17 7HH), to arrive before 5.oopm on Tuesday May 23.  You can’t apply online.

We’ll be carrying information about the candidates in due course.
