Civil War re-enactment at Helmsley Castle

It’s 1644 and Helmsley Castle is under siege!

Experience all the action from Helmsley Castle’s first and last military engagement. Watch the drama unfold as Sir Thomas Fairfax and the forces of Parliament attempt to wrest control of Helmsley Castle from the determined Royalist Garrison.

Visit the encampments on both sides to find out what life was like in 1644 and enjoy music from the period with Hautbois. Children can also find out if they have what it takes to become a soldier during the Civil War in our children’s drill sessions!

This event is fully timetabled from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm: details and further information here. Tickets are £7.20 for adults and £4.20 for children, with concessions and family tickets also available, greatly reduced for members of English Heritage.
